چکیده

Background The use of chemotherapy for the treatment of cancer is associated with cardiovascular injuries and is most commonly monitored with assessments of left ventricular ejection fraction (EF) [1]. Often, EF changes are detected quite late; myocardial strain may identify early, subclinical changes in myocardial injury prior to a decline in EF. Recently, it has been possible to measure myocardial strain directly from cine images without the need for tagged images. We performed a longitudinal study to determine (1) the feasibility of assessing myocardial strain from cine images with automated analysis and (2) if subclinical changes in myocardial contractility can be observed with this new technique in patients receiving cardiotoxic chemotherapies.

Automated assessments of circumferential strain from cine CMR correlate with LVEF declines in cancer patients early after receipt of cardio-toxic chemotherapy

BACKGROUND In patients with cancer receiving potentially cardio-toxic chemotherapy, measurements of left ventricular (LV) circumferential or longitudinal strain are often used clinically to identify myocardial dysfunction. Using a new software algorithm, we sought to determine in individuals receiving treatment for cancer the association between automated assessments of LV mean mid-wall circumf...

Early detection of cardiotoxicity by 2D and 3D deformation imaging in patients receiving chemotherapy

The aim of the present study was to find out whether early cardiac changes in patients receiving chemotherapy can be detected by the conventional and deformation parameters of 2D and 3D echocardiography. Twenty-five healthy subjects with normal regional left ventricular function (group 1) and 25 patients receiving chemotherapy (group 2) underwent 2D and 3D transthoracic echocardiography (Toshib...

Use of myocardial strain imaging by echocardiography for the early detection of cardiotoxicity in patients during and after cancer chemotherapy: a systematic review.

The literature exploring the utility of advanced echocardiographic techniques (such as deformation imaging) in the diagnosis and prognostication of patients receiving potentially cardiotoxic cancer therapy has involved relatively small trials in the research setting. In this systematic review of the current literature, we describe echocardiographic myocardial deformation parameters in 1,504 pat...

بررسی خستگی در بیماران مبتلا به سرطان تحت شیمی درمانی

Fatigue is one of the most common and a distressing side effect of cancer and its treatments. It can affect all aspects of patients’ life and leads to several other hardships. To determine fatigue intensity and it’s changing pattern among those suffering from cancer receiving chemotherapy, a descriptive longitudinal study was conducted. The principal method of data collection was a daily diary...

Automated cardiac motion estimation from 3D Cine DENSE MRI

Background 3D cine displacement encoding with stimulated echoes (DENSE) directly encodes tissue displacement into MR phase data, providing a comprehensive 3D view of cardiac motion and strain. Unfortunately, 3D cine DENSE motion analysis presently requires manually delineated anatomy. An automated analysis would reduce interobserver variability, improve measurement throughput, and simplify data...
